Expert Car Care Inc.

It’s been stated that many automotive repair shops see cars brought in that may not have received the recommended automotive service as frequently as needed at the appropriate intervals. With many cars out on slick and icy roads, this is a scary thought. But it is easy to forget the last time you changed the oil in your car or had the tires rotated. All of a sudden, you start to notice car problems!

The issues below are warning signs that you may be facing automotive repair:

  • Dashboard warning lights come on. Your car's onboard diagnostic system keeps your vehicle operating efficiently. If the dash warnings lights start flashing, take your vehicle into your automotive repair shop for a diagnostic test so that any problems can be detected early and save a costly automotive repair.
  • Oil spots under your car. This indicates leaking motor oil. The filter or drain plug may not be secured tightly or it could be a leaking gasket or seal.
  • Greenish fluid under your car. Radiator fluid is leaking, possibly from a broken hose or a cracked radiator. Don’t risk an overheating engine and engine damage, but take your vehicle to your automotive service center as soon as possible.
  • Noisy Brakes. A high-pitch squeal or squeak when you step on the brake pedal indicates that the pads are worn out. The rotors, calipers, and discs should also be inspected, especially if they are making metal-on-metal grinding sounds.
  • Rumbling or sputtering from underneath the car. There could be a hole in the muffler or possibly a failing catalytic converter.
  • Chirping or screeching from under the hood. The drive belt (or the serpentine belt) directs engine power to accessory systems. As this belt wears, it becomes frayed and brittle. It should be replaced as recommended by your automotive repair technician to prevent having the belt break while driving down the road.
  • Humming, growling, or roaring tires. Your tires may be out-of-round, the tread is worn down, or a bad wheel bearing.

Remember: If your vehicle is showing any of the signs above, schedule an inspection at your automotive service center to make sure you are driving as safely as possible in wintry conditions.
