Here are three questions to ask when you schedule an appointment at an auto repair shop BEFORE you leave your car there:
- How much will the work cost? The mechanic should give you a quote of the cost for the work, including both parts and labor. If the cost is more than you can pay at one time, ask what minimum repair would make the vehicle safe or operational. You can take care of the additional repairs later on as your budget allows.
- Is there a warranty on parts and/or labor? Some parts have a guarantee that covers only a portion of the cost of the part. Make sure you understand what the warranty does, or does not covers
- How long will the job take? You may need to make arrangements for alternative transportation. Many auto repair shops have either a shuttle or loaner.
